Ron Burkle raised $10 million for the Clintons. Now, he has almost nothing to do with them.

As Hillary Clinton and her surrogates scour the country for mega-donors, the one left-leaning billionaire they are not approaching is the one who knows the first couple more intimately than any of the others.

Ron Burkle figures that over the years, he's raised about $10 million for the Clintons at his sprawling Beverly Hills estate. After Bill Clinton left the White House, he and Burkle jetted around the world in an unconventional partnership that netted the former president about $15 million and Burkle entree into the palaces and offices of world dignitaries. For years, when Clinton dropped into Los Angeles, he would only stay at “Ronnie's” place, Greenacres, once owned by silent film star Harold Lloyd. Clinton was fond of the home and its history.

So what's Burkle done for the Clintons lately? Nothing.

“They never asked me for a penny,” he said of Hillary Clinton's campaign during a rare interview in his West Hollywood office that touched on his dim outlook toward Hillary as a candidate, Bill's post-presidential role with Burkle's investment firm and what, exactly, happened on those plane rides.

The festering weirdness between the California billionaire and the Clintons might have drifted out of sight but for Burkle's decision to start raising campaign funds for a candidate other than Hillary Clinton. He's co-hosting a fundraiser this month for Republican John Kasich at Soho House in West Hollywood.

Burkle says he might decide in the end to back Clinton – or he might not. The billionaire who counts supermodel Gisele Bundchen among his best friends, who helped the FBI investigate a New York Post gossip columnist suspected of trying to shake him down, who jets around the globe in a private 757, says Hillary Clinton just isn't re-creating the magic of her husband.

“People would expect Bill Clinton-style love and attention,” he said. “That is not going to happen with her.”

Burkle lumps Hillary Clinton in with a group of well-meaning Democratic presidential nominees who faltered. Like Al Gore and John F. Kerry — candidates Burkle robustly supported — she is brilliant but troublingly disconnected with the electorate, he says.

“As much as I like Gore, Kerry and [Hillary] Clinton, nobody can ever remember what they stand for,” he said. “They overcomplicate it. … They don't win on vision — they make it too complicated. They don't win on likability.” He says President Obama has been a bitter disappointment, failing to deliver on his promise to work with Republicans.

Bill Clinton, though, he says he still adores despite what looked like a very public breakup.

He reminisced about Clinton parachuting into town and wanting Burkle to line up interesting people for him to meet from early morning through late night. Hillary Clinton, not so much. Burkle said she and her longtime aide Huma Abedin would hole up in the posh Hotel Bel-Air during campaign swings in 2007. “They wouldn't see anyone,” he said. “They didn't want any of it.”

Clinton is due in Los Angeles on Thursday for a series of fundraisers and a campaign appearance.

CAMPAIGN TRAIL UPDATES on Trail Guide >>

Few Californians are as tightly woven into the decades-long psychodrama that swirls around the Clintons as Burkle. (Another would be David Geffen — Burkle's next-door neighbor. Geffen has come back into the fold after publicly calling the Clintons shameless liars in 2007.)

Burkle even traces his interest in Kasich to Bill Clinton. Back when Kasich was a leading congressional Republican at the height of Clinton's impeachment proceedings, he bore down and struck a budget deal with the embattled president, Burkle noted. As Burkle scans the field for a candidate with what he describes as the deal-making savvy, the political courage and the common-sense approach that he so valued in Bill Clinton, it's not Clinton's wife who stands out at the moment, but Kasich, who is now Ohio's governor.

“If you are hiring a CEO, he'd be a guy you could hire,” Burkle said. “I think people who take his position should be heard.” But Burkle cautions: “It doesn't mean I am going to write a $10-million check to him.”

Clinton loyalists do not take kindly to such musings. They say that Burkle is embittered after his business dealings with Bill Clinton fizzled. Their partnership dissolved as Hillary Clinton mounted her 2008 bid for the White House. It ended with a firestorm of bad press for both men, with reports of Clinton family confidants fretting that Bill Clinton's bromance with Burkle invited scandal. Unverified reports of the two men jetting around in a Burkle 757 filled with attractive young women leached from the tabloids to the mainstream media.

Burkle is still irked by it all. He says the plane — on which his then-adolescent son was often aboard with Clinton — was hardly a flying frat house.

“No woman could get within 100 miles of [Clinton] while I was on watch,” he said. And the awkward, borderline dowdy businessman expresses bemusement at the idea that he's a Don Juan. “I'm very shy with girls,” he said. “It takes me about a year to tell a girl I like her.”

Burkle suspects Geffen was a source for some of the most damning media coverage, the worst of which emerged at a time Geffen was riled with Bill Clinton for refusing to pardon Leonard Peltier, the imprisoned Native American activist who Amnesty International says was unfairly convicted of murdering two FBI agents in 1975. Geffen has denied it. And because this is Hollywood and these are billionaires, Burkle expresses surprise when asked if bitterness lingers between him and Geffen. Burkle insists they are friends.

He says the same about the Clintons. The days of regular phone chats are gone, Burkle said, but when he bumped into Bill Clinton at a funeral a couple of months ago, they hugged.

How Donald Trump's campaign prodded Republicans to act on healthcare >>

The high-stakes campaign-cash bundlers and politically influential proxies in the Clinton network are conflicted about how to navigate around Burkle. Some note that Burkle opened his wallet in a big way recently to elect another longtime Clinton confidant, Terry McAuliffe, as governor of Virginia, suggesting there is room for him to come back onto the reservation. Others say the Clintons can do without the baggage that Burkle brings.

But everyone is treading cautiously. Should Burkle ever choose to inflict damage on the Clintons, he is well-positioned to do so. His entanglements with the family were deep. So much so that people close to both men say Burkle never paid Clinton millions of dollars owed him when the partnership was dissolved. If true, Clinton had no recourse. A court battle would have been mutually assured destruction, exposing both to embarrassing depositions.

Burkle tells a different story. He says Clinton just never got interested in helping drum up business for Burkle's investment firm, Yucaipa.

“It wasn't his thing,” Burkle said. “Whenever we went anywhere, he didn't want to talk business.” Besides, Burkle said, Clinton had other things he was focused on, namely setting up his foundation and its work on AIDS prevention in Africa and other global issues.

The partnership sprung, Burkle said, out of Clinton's need for income when he left the White House deep in debt with legal bills. “He was looking at doing a TV show,” Burkle said. “I thought, this is the worst idea ever. I thought, let's do something that is worker-friendly and community-friendly. If you need to make money, let's do something good.”

Ultimately, though, Burkle said of Clinton's time with Yucaipa: “If you try to figure out what he did, he really didn't do anything.”

Judicial Watch: New State Department Emails Reveal Top Clinton Aide Focused on Her Private Company’s Logo 24 Hours After Deadly Benghazi Attack

- Judicial Watch

www.judicialwatch.org

JANUARY 06, 2016

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch today released State Department emails, written 24 hours after the terrorist attack on the Benghazi consulate, in which former Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills quickly moved past condolences over the slaying of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens to focus her attention on the design of her private company’s logo by prominent international advertising firm GSD&M.  Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation against the State Department forced Mills and other Clinton aides to turn over emails from non-State.gov accounts on which they conducted government business.

The emails, obtained under a court orderin a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit, reference the logo design for the “cdmillsGroup,” a private company set up by Mills on January 3, 2013, a month before she left her job at the State Department.  The Mills “cdmillsGroup” logo discussion includes another government employee, Jean-Louis Warnholz, then-State Department senior advisor to Hillary Clinton. (Warnholz would go on to be a business partner with Ms. Mills in another company.)

The Judicial Watch lawsuit was filed onSeptember 4, 2014, (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:14-cv-01511)), seeking:

All records related to notes, updates, or reports created in response to the September 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. This request includes, but is not limited to, notes taken by then Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton or employees of the Office of the Secretary of State during the attack and its immediate aftermath.

On September 13, 2012, at 4:31 p.m., Judy Trabulsi, a co-founder of the GSD&M advertising firm, sent Mills the followingemail:

Cheryl — I haven’t stopped watching the news and my heart breaks for Ambassador Stevens’ family, for Hillary (and you) and all those who worked with him. What an amazing life he lived and he had to be among the best Ambassadors in the Foreign Service.

I was going to give you the printouts of the new logos tomorrow (I think they are great) but thought you’d like to look at them over the weekend.

Sending a “heart hug” to you.

Much love – Judy

Trabulsi also attached for Mills another email describing proposed logos:

The first has the cdmillsGroup logo in the sans-serif and the second has it in the serif font. Adjusted the burnt orange color to be more accurate. Both pdfs show the logo, letterhead, business card and envelope.  The tag line is printed like a watermark on the letterhead. In addition, as we discussed, you’ll find the “double-globe endeavor branding element” used on a brochure cover and two powerpoint slides.  Don’t hesitate to email me back with any questions.

Mills responded to Trabulsi on September 13, 2012 at 11:32 p.m.:

Dear Judy

The bough bent and nearly broke this week – Chris was truly one of our best – HRC had picked him especially to go b/c of who he was and what he represented. And Sean was a rising star. Tomorrow we will welcome their remains home wondering how this would be possible. Thank you for your kind words.  And thanks for these – I really like them.

I think my preference is the one that is sans serif font. I will scan some comments on them this weekend – I think it’s exactly what I would want so would have only a few tweaks. Thank you so very much.

Mills also forwarded the logo discussion to Jean-Louis Warnholz that night without comment.  Warnholz, a senior advisor to Mrs. Clinton at the State Department, responded the next day, September 14, 2012, at 1:06 p.m.:

I really like the cdmillsGroup in sans serif font (first attachment) with the slogan.  It’s clean and compelling.  I still have reservations about the two globes. It just feels a bit too generic to me.

Separate Judicial Watch FOIA litigation uncovered documents that show that Cheryl Mills used the cdmillsGroup to represent Hillary Clinton in communications with the State Department about Mrs. Clinton’s separate email system.

The cdmillsGroup is apparently still in business. The Hillary For Americacampaign’s September 3 FEC disbursement report lists a $28,500 payment to the “CdmillsGroup LLC.”

Judicial Watch previously released documents revealing that between 2009 and 2011 former President Clinton spoke to more than two dozen leading international investment firms and banking institutions, many of them on more than one occasion.  At least one of the documents shows that Mills used a non-governmental email account for the Clinton ethics reviews. Mills reportedly negotiated the “ethics agreement” on behalf of the Clintons and the Foundation that required the Clintons to submit to rigorous conflict-of-interest checks. Despite this, and in apparent violation of Obama administration ethics rules, the documents reveal that Bill Clinton’s requests for speaking engagementapproval were invariably copied to Mills, who was involved in ethics reviews as chief of staff for Mrs. Clinton at the State Department.

The Washington Post reported that Mills was unpaid for her first few months at the State Department, “officially designated as a temporary expert-consultant — a status that allowed her to continue to collect outside income while serving as chief of staff.”  (Judicial Watch recently filed a FOIA lawsuit for the ethics and employment records of Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin, another longtime Clinton aide.)

“These new Benghazi emails are almost obscene,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “That Hillary Clinton aide and confidante Cheryl Mills was focused on the font for the logo of her new company – as our Benghazi facility was still smoldering – is unconscionable. And it is no coincidence that Mills used her new business to help Hillary Clinton cover up her email scandal.”

Donald Trump has America's pulse: Rick Scott

www.usatoday.com

Florida Gov. Rick Scott in Jacksonville

Political pundits are shocked that Donald Trump is leading in the polls. The same thing happened in 2010 when I entered the Florida gubernatorial race against the already anointed and establishment-endorsed sitting Republican attorney general. One establishment member even said to me “how can you be Governor? I don’t know you.”

I won the governor’s race in 2010 and many outsiders — some businesspeople — continue to shock the political establishment by coming into elected office from careers outside of politics. Attorney Chris Christie was elected governor of New Jersey in 2009; manufacturer Ron Johnson was elected senator in Wisconsin in 2010; businessman Bruce Rauner won the governor’s race in Illinois in 2014; andbusinessman Matt Bevin won the governorship of Kentucky just a few months ago. Voters have been choosing new ideas and new energy over the old formula of sheer time served in political office.

I know Donald Trump personally, and while I currently have no plans to endorse a candidate before Florida’s March presidential primary, there is no doubt that Donald is a man who speaks and tweets his mind freely. But, I don’t think his ability to give the most interesting interviews or speeches is the only thing that has him leading in the polls. I think he is capturing the frustration of many Americans after seven years of President Obama’s very intentional government takeover of the American economy.

Have you tried to start a business recently? That used to be the American dream. But, after seven years of endless and tedious regulation and taxation, it is nearly unaffordable to do so. Americans are mad, and I agree with them. I started school living in public housing, and I have been blessed to do well in business over my lifetime, but I also benefited from a government at that time that wasn’t slowly taxing and regulating the life out of the American dream.

What happened to our country? Why isn’t everyone upset that federal regulation and taxes have steered us onto the wrong course? This shouldn’t be a frustration of just one candidate, or even one party. This should be universal.

Trump, Ventura & political performance art: Garrison Keillor

I continue to believe that our next president will be chosen because he or she has a believable plan for robust job creation in America. Yes, foreign policy and defense will be front burner issues in this election, but let’s not forget that without a thriving economy, we will never be able to afford the kind of vigorous defenses that our country must have.

Our next president cannot simply tweak our national economic policies. We need a complete overhaul.

Our next president will be fed up with the fact that job creation has basically dried up in many states with a few exceptionslike Texas, North Dakota and Florida. Our next president will be incensed by the fact that middle-income, hard-working Americans can't even afford to start the business they always dreamed about because they would pay more in taxes and federal healthcare mandates than they could make in profits.

POLICING THE USA: A look at race, justice, media

I ran for governor of Florida to turn our economy around. I pledged to create 700,000 jobs in seven years. In the last five years, we have added one million private sector jobs. We presently havealmost 300,000 job openings. Housing prices have recovered, and our crime rate is at a 44 year lowEven though the politicians will scoff at the notion, we can see this kind of growth nationally if we dramatically change our approach to governing.

It is my hope that every Republican presidential candidate will become laser-focused on job creation because I want our next president to be a Republican, and I want them to eliminate the regulations and taxes that are poisoning our country’s future. The pollsters and pundits will keep trying to read voters’ minds. In the meantime, I am glad Republicans are frustrated. I am glad we are demanding a major change, because until we get serious about that, we will continue to get more of the same.

OBAMA’S NEW GUN CONTROL TEAM IS 8X LARGER THAN HIS ANTI-ISIS TEAM

More Resources for Gun Control

We are at war with Islamic extremists, and Obama cannot even bring himself to use terrorist and Islam in the same sentence. Nevertheless, ISIS and other Islamic groups have called for the the destruction of Israel, American and the West unless they convert to Islam. Obama has been absolutely miserly in providing resources to destroy this enemy of America, and insistent that bombing runs drop warning leaflets on ISIS targets before unleashing actual bombs sufficient to turn the tide.

He was wrong, and ISIS is actually gaining strength, or at least was until Russia entered the fray. With the risk so great, and the American people so insistent that this is the number one issue he must address, Obama instead has decided that he will invite tens of thousands of Muslims to come live in the United States, even though the immigration department has clearly indicated that they cannot properly vet the huge number of migrants to ensure they are not agents of ISIS. It is incomprehensible unless you decide that his true goal is the destruction of America.

And now Obama has indicated that gun control is much more important than keeping Americans safe from terrorism. He has shown that by the resources he is willing to dedicate to gun control in comparison to the bigger issue of terrorism.

President Obama plans to build a new gun control force of 430 agents, more than eight times the size of the team of commandos he is sending to the Middle East to hunt down and destroy ISIS terrorists.

According to a White House fact sheet, the president plans to deploy 200 more Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco,Firearms and Explosives agents “to help enforce our gun laws.”

He also plans to add at least 230 new FBI agents to pour over the backgrounds of gun buyers. Said the White House: “The FBI will hire more than 230 additional examiners and other staff to help process these background checks.”

In Iraq, by comparison, the White House is moving to install an estimated 50-200 special operations forces to take down ISIS.

An Associated Press report said the commandos would number around 50, with the rest in supporting roles.

This is wrong on so many levels it is hard to comprehend. Even liberal media outlets have indicated that the proposals made by Obama yesterday would have done little or nothing to quell the gun violence that has been committed in the last several years. The proposals are simply an attack on the ability of law-abiding citizens to purchase a gun and defend themselves without undue intrusion from the government.

The proposals also raise serious issues of government ability to come into an individuals home without a warrant or other protections afforded by the Constitution. The biggest question of all is why Obama is so determined to go against the will of the people and to violate so many laws in order to force his will. And that gets back to priorities.

Given that the new executive order will anger much of the nation, will violate so many laws, and will do nothing to take guns out of the hands of criminals or quell violence, why is gun prohibition or confiscation so high on Obama’s priority list? That is the larger question regarding this lawless and imperial president, and the possible answers so dark and dispiriting.

Your DOCTOR is now your DICTATOR: Obama gives doctors power to declare you 'mentally ill' and take away your guns

Doctors and gun rights

(NaturalNews) Through the power of unconstitutional executive orders, Obama has just granted doctors the power to place you on the FBI's "no buy" list for firearms merely for having the opinion that you're "mentally ill."

Yep, there's no scientific test, no hard evidence and no chance to defend yourself... doctors can now simply DECIDE that you're mentally ill and have all your guns taken away.

This power, remember, is being given to a class of corrupt professionals who are almost universally on the take from Big Pharma, receiving routine bribes and drug peddling influence that encourages them to drug everybody with psychiatric drugs that drive people insane.

Even worse, many doctors already believe that anyone who owns a gun is insane to begin with, and there's the catch-22: If you want to own a gun, you must be insane and therefore should be denied the right to own a gun.

All this comes down to just one more good reason who fewer and fewer people are now visiting mainstream (conventional) doctors. They're now SNITCHES for the feds!

For Hillary Clinton, old news or new troubles?

www.washingtonpost.com

The ghosts of the 1990s have returned to confront Hillary Clinton, released from the vault by Donald Trump and revved up by a 21st-century version of the scandal machine that almost destroyed her husband’s presidency.

This is a moment that her campaign has long expected. What remains to be seen is whether a reminder of allegations of sexual impropriety against Bill Clinton — which were deemed to have varying levels of credibility when they were first aired — can gain new traction in a different context.

The fresher case being made is that Hillary Clinton has been, at a minimum, hypocritical about her husband’s treatment of women, and possibly even complicit in discrediting his accusers.

And it is being pressed at a time when there is a new sensitivity toward victims of unwanted sexual contact, and when one of the biggest news stories is the prosecution of once-beloved comedian Bill Cosby on charges that he drugged and assaulted a woman 12 years ago — one of dozens who have accused him of similar behavior.

In November, Hillary Clinton tweeted: “Every survivor of sexual assault deserves to be heard, believed, and supported.” She has made women’s issues a central focus of her campaign and is counting on a swell of support for the historic prospect of the first female president.

Former president Bill Clinton spoke in New Hampshire on Jan. 4, his first speech in support of his wife, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, in 2016. (The Washington Post)

Clinton’s campaign appears confident that Americans will see all of this as old news, and that her husband will remain an asset to her efforts to get his old job. It is happening early in the campaign season, and Trump himself has come under heavy criticism for his many boorish comments about women.

Trump started hammering on Bill Clinton’s behavior in retaliation for Hillary Clinton’s assertion, during a pre-Christmas interview with the Des Moines Register, that Trump has demonstrated a “penchant for sexism.”

“Hillary Clinton has announced that she is letting her husband out to campaign but HE’S DEMONSTRATED A PENCHANT FOR SEXISM, so inappropriate!” Trump tweeted on Dec. 26.

In an interview Monday on CNN, Trump amped up his rhetoric, calling Bill Clinton “one of the great women abusers of all time” and saying Hillary Clinton was his “enabler.”

Both Clintons have declined to comment on Trump’s latest barrages against them.

Until Trump turned his outsized media spotlight to Bill Clinton’s past sexual behavior, the issue had largely receded to the darker corners of the Internet, although it had continued to percolate.

Last month, a woman in the audience at a Clinton campaign event in New Hampshire asked her: “You say that all rape victims should be believed. But would you say that about Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Willey and/or Paula Jones?”

It was not a spontaneous question. The woman read from a card and mispronounced the first two names she mentioned.

But to anyone who followed the sagas of the Clinton presidency, they were familiar ones:

●Broaddrick had accused Bill Clinton of raping her in 1978, when she was working on his Arkansas gubernatorial campaign.

●Willey, a former White House volunteer, said he had attempted to kiss and grope her in a private hallway leading to the Oval Office.

●Jones, a onetime Arkansas state employee, sued Clinton in 1994 for sexual harassment, saying he had three years earlier exposed his erect penis to her and asked her to kiss it.

And, of course, the biggest of all was the scandal over Clinton’s extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky, who was a White House intern at the time. Diane Blair, a close friend of Hillary Clinton, wrote in her journal unearthed in 2014 that the then-first lady had privately called Lewinsky a “narcissistic loony toon.”

Publicly, Clinton’s defenders were at times brutal in their characterizations of the women who made sexual allegations against him. “If you drag a hundred-dollar bill through a trailer park, you never know what you’ll find,” James Carville, Bill Clinton’s former strategist, once said.

Yet Bill Clinton settled Jones’s lawsuit in November 1998 for $850,000, acknowledging no wrongdoing and offering no apology. Just under a month later, he was impeached by the House on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice that stemmed from Jones’s lawsuit; he was acquitted by the Senate.

He also denied both Willey and Broaddrick’s allegations.

But all of these past accusations are being stirred up again, including by some who claim they were his victims.

Broaddrick, now a Trump supporter, tweeted Wednesday: “I was 35 years old when Bill Clinton, Ark. Attorney General raped me and Hillary tried to silence me. I am now 73. . . .it never goes away.”

In an interview, she said she had watched Bill Clinton’s first solo campaign appearance on his wife’s behalf on television Monday.

“He looked so beaten, and he looked like everything in his past was catching up to him. He looked so downtrodden. It made my heart sing,” Broaddrick said.

And she is not the only one.

Tom Watson, owner of Maverick Investigations, an Arizona-based private investigative agency, built a website — “A Scandal a Day” — for Willey last spring, shortly after Hillary Clinton declared she was running for president. It aims to bring forward new allegations.

The site went live in June, Watson said, and in the first two hours it received 100,000 hits.

“Kathleen is going to be very popular this year,” Watson predicted.

Last month, Aaron Klein, a writer for such right-of-center publications as World Net Daily and host of a weekly radio talk show, wrote an article on Breitbart.com headlined “In Their Own Words: Why Bill’s ‘Bimbos’ Fear a Hillary Presidency.”

In it, Klein described how his radio program had become “a support center of sorts” for Bill Clinton’s female accusers — “a safe-space for these women to sound off about the way they were allegedly treated by both Bill and Hillary.”

In the article, Klein quotes Broaddrick, Willey and Gennifer Flowers, an actress who had an affair with Clinton when he was governor.

In what Klein described as Flowers’s only interview since Clinton announced her candidacy, Flowers accused Hillary of being “an enabler that has encouraged [Bill] to go out and do whatever he does with women.”

“I think it’s a joke,” Klein quotes Flowers as saying, “that she would run on women’s issues.”
