Hillary University: Bill Clinton Bagged $16.46 Million from For-Profit College as State Dept. Funneled $55 Million Back

With her campaign sinking in the polls, Hillary Clinton has launched a desperate attack against Trump University to deflect attention away from her deep involvement with a controversial for-profit college that made the Clintons millions, even as the school faced serious legal scrutiny and criminal investigations.

In April 2015, Bill Clinton was forced to abruptly resign from his lucrative perch as honorary chancellor of Laureate Education, a for-profit college company. The reason for Clinton’s immediate departure: Clinton Cashrevealed, and Bloomberg confirmed, that Laureate funneled Bill Clinton $16.46 million over five years while Hillary Clinton’s State Dept. pumped at least $55 million to a group run by Laureate’s founder and chairman, Douglas Becker, a man with strong ties to the Clinton Global Initiative. Laureate has donated between $1 million and $5 million (donations are reported in ranges, not exact amounts) tothe Clinton Foundation. Progressive billionaire George Soros is also a Laureate financial backer.

As the Washington Post reports, “Laureate has stirred controversy throughout Latin America, where it derives two-thirds of its revenue.” During Bill Clinton’s tenure as Laureate’s chancellor, the school spent over $200 million a year on aggressive telemarketing, flashy Internet banner ads, and billboards designed to lure often unprepared students from impoverished countries to enroll in its for-profit classes. The goal: get as many students, regardless of skill level, signed up and paying tuition.

“I meet people all the time who transfer here when they flunk out elsewhere,” agronomy student Arturo Bisono, 25, told the Post. “This has become the place you go when no one else will accept you.”

Others, like Rio state legislator Robson Leite who led a probe into Bill Clinton’s embattled for-profit education scheme, say the company is all about extracting cash, not educating students. “They have turned education into a commodity that focuses more on profit than knowledge,” said Leite.

Progressives have long excoriated for-profit education companies for placing profits over quality pedagogy. Still, for five years, Bill Clinton allowed his face and name to be plastered all over Laureate’s marketing materials. As Clinton Cash reported, pictures of Bill Clinton even lined the walkways at campuses like Laureate’s Bilgi University in Istanbul, Turkey. That Laureate has campuses in Turkey is odd, given that for-profit colleges are illegal there, as well as in Mexico and Chile where Laureate also operates.

Shortly after Bill Clinton’s lucrative 2010 Laureate appointment, Hillary Clinton’s State Dept. began pumping millions of its USAID dollars to a sister nonprofit, International Youth Foundation (IYF), which is run by Laureate’s founder and chairman, Douglas Becker. Indeed, State Dept. funding skyrocketed once Bill Clinton got on the Laureate payroll, according to Bloomberg:

A Bloomberg examination of IYF’s public filings show that in 2009, the year before Bill Clinton joined Laureate, the nonprofit received 11 grants worth $9 million from the State Department or the affiliated USAID. In 2010, the group received 14 grants worth $15.1 million. In 2011, 13 grants added up to $14.6 million. The following year, those numbers jumped: IYF received 21 grants worth $25.5 million, including a direct grant from the State Department.

Throughout ten Democratic Party debates, Establishment Media have not asked Hillary Clinton a single question about she and her husband’s for-profit education scam.

Tom Brokaw: Bernie Sanders Can Win Nomination if He Wins California

Veteran newsman Tom Brokaw told the Breitbart News Daily audience on Thursday that Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders could potentially capture the Democratic Party’s nomination if he beats former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the California primary.

When asked about Sanders’ chances by SiriusXM host Stephen K. Bannon, Brokaw, who has covered every presidential election since Nixon-Kennedy, responded:

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER

My favorite theory of politics, every cycle, is what I call the UFO theory — the unforeseen will occur. I never get involved in who’s going to win and who’s going to lose at the beginning or even midway through, but what I try to do is describe the consequences of what may happen and what the possibilities are here. Bernie Sanders is on a roll. He’s ramping up at this point, and she’s got difficulties.

The country is half-cocked in the ticked off position. They’re willing to pull the pin on the grenade and roll it into the process and kind of frag the process if you will. So that means that the younger voters in California who have no attachment to Hillary — she’s been around for a long time. This guy comes along and says a lot of unrealistic things about free healthcare, free college, that kind of thing, but he’s obviously touching a big political nerve.

Bannon followed up by asking if the political establishment in both parties and the intellectual and cultural elite have failed the country and thus paved the way for the populist uprisings in both the Republican and Democrat primaries. Brokaw responded by saying:

I think what they’ve done is separate themselves from the country. I think they didn’t listen to the country before this cycle. It’s become a kind of self-continuing process in Washington. Everybody, because of gerrymandering, Democrats and Republicans are generally in good shape about getting back.

They live good lives. They spend a lot of their time just raising money. You know, when I was growing up, the Congressmen would come back and walk Main Street. Now they go to a country club and raise dough. So, I think there is a real profound separation. On the other hand, I think there are so many more strengths in this country than people are now willing to acknowledge. We’re in better shape than most people think that we are, in terms of prosperity, and we’re making gains in medical care and other areas.

Brokaw also spoke about the challenges and changes faced by the American working and middle classes:

Ten, twelve years ago I was out in the middle of Ohio talking about the lost American dream; about manufacturing disappearing from places like Toledo, Ohio, which is the home of Libby Glass at that time, and other places; about how the working class had changed in Detroit. Now everybody was on the run. They’d get an assignment in the morning, and they’d have to go to Cincinnati or they’d have to go to different places. On the other hand, you do see those sounds where they said, ‘Okay, we’ve got to reinvent ourselves, you know, that era is gone. We’ve got to find a new way of doing things.’ They’ve been enterprising at doing it.

A perfect example right now for me is that because of this anti-tax attitude, when gas prices got down to where they are, I thought why couldn’t we have a five cent gasoline tax for public works — it’s not going to hurt anybody, really, in the long haul — and start working on our infrastructure? I was just in Europe, and a lot of the European countries have better highways than we do, you know, more secure bridges. We need to do that. We need to do the work in this country, and that would have created some jobs.

When I was eight-years-old, we moved to the center of South Dakota where they were building an enormous flood control and hydroelectric dam, Fort Randall. Three thousand workers moved in there. These were people who came out of the Depression, fought the war, and were looking for a good job, and they got a good job for ten years. Their children, me included and my friends, who went on to become journalists, lawyers, doctors and others and are giving back in a new way. That was a big government project that at the time was needed and at the time that the government was deep in debt. We gotta have a little more flexibility is what I think.

New California Primary Poll: Sanders 44, Clinton 43

Adelle Nazarian / Breitbart News

by JOEL B. POLLAK2 Jun 201617

Sen. Bernie Sanders achieved his first lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times pollreleased on Thursday. Sanders drew support from 44% of eligible Democratic voters, versus 43% for Clinton.

The result, within the poll’s 2.9% margin of error, is yet another statistical dead heat in the California primary — the fourth in less than two weeks. However, among voters with the highest propensity to vote, Clinton leads 49% to 39%.

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER

The Times reports that Sanders is succeeding by winning among minority voters — who have, until now, been Clinton’s firewall:

Hillary Clinton’s popularity has slumped in California under an unrelenting challenge from Bernie Sanders, who has succeeded in breaching the demographic wall Clinton had counted on to protect her in the state’s presidential primary…

As he has done across the country this primary season, Sanders commands the support of younger voters by huge margins in advance of Tuesday’s primary — even among Latinos and Asians, voter groups that Clinton easily won when she ran eight years ago. Many of his backers come from a large pool of voters who have registered for the first time in the weeks before the election.

Among Latino voters in particular, the poll shows a 44%-44% tie.

The question is what the turnout will be on primary day, June 7. Two-thirds — or more — of California primary voters have cast votes by mail in recent elections, and could have been voting since early May, long before Sanders’s late surge.

Sanders leads 48% to 35% among “non-partisan” voters. However, those voters will have to request a special ballot in order to support Sanders.

The poll also found that if Clinton is the nominee, 10% of Sanders voters in California intend to vote for Trump.

Debra Messing Poses for Gun Contol Selfie As UCLA Shooting Unfolds

Actress Debra Messing posed for a selfie in support of gun control just as a manhunt began for the suspect who opened fire on the campus of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Wednesday morning.

Two victims were shot on UCLA’s gun-free campus at around 9:53 a.m. Wednesday morning, Breitbart News previously reported. At 10:35 am, as police began searching for the perpetrator, Messing tweeted a selfie with the caption: “HORRENDOUS Watching news about shooting at UCLA with casualties while taking selfie 2bring awareness to Gun Violence.”

@DebraMessing

The actress wore a shirt with the logo from Katie Couric’s gun control documentaryUnder The Gun. Couric recently apologized for “misleading” viewers with edits in the film designed to make pro-2nd Amendment advocates appear foolish.

The tweet featuring the photograph appeared to have been deleted shortly after it was posted.

Messing apparently faced significant backlash shortly after posting the tweet. In a series of follow-up messages, the Will and Grace star said she never intended to cause offense and was simply a victim of “the horrendous irony of the timing” of the post.

Messing failed to mention that the UCLA campus is gun-free —like all California college campuses. In other words, the campus has 100 percent gun control.

A short time later, Messing tweeted a longer statement in defense of her initial tweet:

Jeff Bezos decries Trump for trying to 'chill the media'

money.cnn.com

Bezos is, of course, both -- the CEO ofAmazon (AMZNTech30) and the owner of The Washington Post. On stage at the Code Conference, he called it inappropriate that Trump "is working to freeze or chill the media that are examining him" and said candidates should be doing the opposite.

Trump has been vocally critical of The Post, Amazon and Bezos personally.

Bezos didn't bring up the presidential candidate when he was interviewed on-stage at the tech conference. But when an audience member asked about Trump, Bezos defended the press.

"It's just a fact that we live in a world where, half the population on this planet, if you criticize your leader, there's a good chance you'll go to jail or worse," Bezos said. "We live in this amazing democracy with amazing freedom of speech. And a presidential candidate should embrace that."

Bezos continued: "They should say, 'I'm running for president of the most important country of the world. I expect to be scrutinized. Please examine me.' That's a very important cultural norm."

Without cultural norms, he added, "the Constitution is just a piece of paper."

Bezos deflected the questioner's attempts to ask about whether he would donate money or take other actions to stop Trump. And he specifically avoided giving any of the tech A-listers in the room any political advice.

Instead, he brought it back to his relatively new role as a prominent newspaper publisher.

Bezos invoked the late Post publisher Katherine Graham, who was once threatened by a Nixon administration official.

"With Kay Graham as my role model," he said, "I'm very willing to let any of my body parts go through a big, fat ringer if needbe."

Related: Donald Trump's war on Jeff Bezos, Amazon and the Washington Post

During the wide-ranging conversation with moderator Walt Mossberg, Bezos also said he's "more optimistic today" about the Post than he was when he bought the paper in 2013.

Bezos reiterated the Post's pursuit of scale — its strategy is to earn "a relatively small amount of money per reader but on a very large number of readers."

"That reminds me of Amazon," Mossberg said.

"That's exactly right," Bezos said, and spoke of the Post as the "national and, to some degree, global newspaper for people who are interested in the capital city of the U.S."

Bezos talked about Amazon's original programming efforts, observing that "When we win a Golden Globe, it helps us sell more shoes."

He said that "on the demand side... we don't compete with Netflix, for the reason that I think people are going to subscribe to both."

He acknowledged that Amazon and Netflix do compete on the "supply side" by bidding for the same programs.

SiriusXM Announces Suspension of Glenn Beck over Brad Thor Interview Comments

by BREITBART NEWS31 May 201614,013

SiriusXM hosts Stephen K. Bannon and David Webb announced on Breitbart News Daily that SiriusXM has suspended Glenn Beck and Webb will temporarily take over Beck’s 9AM to noon Eastern time slot on SiriusXM’s Patriot Channel 125.

SiriusXM issued the following statement:

SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER

SiriusXM encourages a diversity of discourse and opinion on our talk programs. However, comments recently made by a guest on the independently produced Glenn Beck Program, in our judgement, may be reasonably construed by some to have been advocating harm against an individual currently running for office, which we cannot and will not condone. For that reason, we have suspended The Glenn Beck Program from our Patriot channel for the coming week and are evaluating its place in our lineup going forward. SiriusXM is committed to a spirited, robust, yet responsible political conversation and believes this action reflects those values.

The suspension is in response to the interview Beck did with fiction author Brad Thor last Wednesday, in which Thor likened the GOP’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump to a South American-style dictator who would cause an “extinction-level event” for the country if elected. Thor then declared that in such a case, Congress would not be able to remove Trump from office by “legal means” through impeachment, so Thor asked “what patriot will step up and do that” if Trump oversteps his Constitutional restraints. Beck agreed with Thor’s assessment.

Here is the exchange:

THOR: He is a danger to America and I got to ask you a question and this is serious and this could ring down incredible heat on me because I’m about to suggest something very bad. It is a hypothetical I am going to ask as a thriller writer.

With the feckless, spineless Congress we have, who will stand in the way of Donald Trump overstepping his constitutional authority as President? If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if, if, he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitutional-granted authority, I should say, as president.

If he oversteps that, how do we get him out of office? And I don’t think there is a legal means available. I think it will be a terrible, terrible position the American people will be in to get Trump out of office because you won’t be able to do it through Congress.

BECK: I would agree with you on that and I don’t think you actually have the voices we’ve been talking about and we’ve been talking about this off-air for a while. I think the voices like ours go away. I don’t think we are allowed – especially if things, and I believe the economy is going to go to crap, even if Jesus was in office. It’s going to naturally reset. It has to.

Read the rest of the exchange here.

After receiving criticism for these comments from people who believed Thor and Beck were suggesting or at least implying assassination, Beck offered a lengthy defense of his statements. You can read the full transcript of his defense here.
