Scarborough: ‘I’d Rather Set Myself on Fire’ Than Participate in Debate With Megyn Kelly

by JEFF POOR27 Jan 2016914

Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough reacted to Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump’s decision not to participate in Thursday’s Republican debate hosted by the Fox News Channel.

Scarborough ripped Fox News for provoking Trump and said he wouldn’t have participated in the debate either based on Fox News Channel’s tack regarding the possibility of bias by debate moderator Megyn Kelly, host of FNC’s “The Kelly File.”

“First of all, a news organization that is going to run a debate provoking a candidate like that just is asking for it,” Scarborough said. “Donald Trump, I will tell you, I would literally go to the center of Sixth Avenue and set myself on fire – set myself on fire before I stood on a debate stage with any news organization that did that statement. I would tell them to go to hell a lot faster than Donald Trump did. I’m not talking about Fox. I got a lot of friends at Fox. I love Fox. I know a lot of people at Fox are really twisted up about how this has gone down and how Megyn Kelly is somehow with Michael Moore taking over the network. They provoked him. They had to know.”

Pride Goeth Before the Fall: Ailes Calls Trump’s Wife and Daughter

From Chris Spargo writing at The Daily Mail:

The Fox News and Donald Trump feud is heating up now that the Republicanfront-runner has announced he will not be attending the network’s debate Thursday night over the presence of anchor Megyn Kelly.

And while the network appears to be publicly siding with Kelly, who is still set to moderate Thursday’s debate, the network is also reportedly trying to privately plead with Trump the best way they know how – through the women in his life.

Joe Scarborough revealed on Morning Joe Wednesday morning that Fox News CEO Roger Ailes had been trying to contact both Ivanka and Melania Trump hoping they could convince Trump to change his mind, but that Trump would only speak to Rupert Murdoch.

WATCH: French Cops Run From Migrants Screaming: ‘We Are Muslim, We Want To Go To UK!’

by DONNA RACHEL EDMUNDS26 Jan 20161066

Video footage (above) reveals the moment migrants and anarchists marching through the centre of Calais on Saturday broke through police lines and stormed the city’s port which connects France to the United Kingdom.

The French government is adamant that current security provisions in the area are adequate and effective, yet the video shows riot police backing away from a crowd of migrants chanting “UK, UK”, before turning and running. One migrant angrily screams at the camera: “We are people. We are Muslim! We want to go to UK!”

The migrants were then able to break through security fencing; 50 made it all the way onto the UK-bound ferry Spirit of Britain.

It is not clear from the video how many migrants broke through the police line andmarched into the port, but it is apparent that initial reports of 150 were an underestimate. Later reports suggested that anywhere between 500 and 1000 migrants made it within port boundaries, although only 50 succeeded in boarding the UK bound ferry Pride of Britain.

However, the new video, which was filmed from within the migrant crowd, sheds new light on how the migrants were able to access the port in the first place. It shows a line of around 20 riot police blocking access to Rue de la Mer, which leads to the port. A large contingent of migrants and anarchists walk up to the police line chanting “UK, UK”.

At first police try to move them on, telling them to “go left”, which the migrants refuse to do. Instead, following a speech by man holding a loudhailer, the police simply back away before turning and running, allowing the migrants to stream past them. A few police try to recreate the line further down the street, only for their commander to order them to fall back.

The migrants, some carrying the red flag of the New Anticapitalist Party of France, race towards the port, again chanting “UK, UK” and cut through the fences. Only after a few hundred have streamed through do the police attempt to halt them by firing tear gas canisters at the opening in the fence line.

The video was compiled by Taranis News, a French magazine which launched in 2014 and which appears to be supportive of the no borders/pro-mass migration movement. Much of the footage featured in their videos is shot from within the migrant groups, suggesting that activists are passing them footage for dissemination. They were also the first to break the video showing a homeowner forced to defend his property against a breakaway group of migrantsusing just an airsoft rifle.

Meanwhile Calais Migrant Solidarity, one of the main socialist groups accused of stirring up trouble within The Jungle has backed away from taking credit for Saturday’s riots, instead insisting that it was the migrants themselves who masterminded the port break in. Any attempts to blame Westerners, they said, amounted to “racism” perpetrated by the “right wing.”

“The main organisations who called for and organised the demonstration were the CISPM (International Coalition of People Without Papers and Migrants) and the ATMF (Association of French Maghrebian Workers) but the call was supported by a vast array of different solidarity groups. Coaches to the demonstration came from all across France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and also a large contingent from the UK,” they explained in a blog on their website.

“The idea that ‘refugees’ could autonomusly [sic] and easily board a boat in the Calais habour [sic] is incomprehensible for the British press,” they continue. “This rhetoric and discourse is deeply racist.

“This was an action autonomously organised by people living in the jungle, people without papers, and refugees, these people were supported by activists from countries across the world.

“To claim anything different is to deny the reality of the situation, that the people of the Jungle are willing to disrupt, occupy, and fight the institutions that keep them from their freedom!”

The French government is facing numerous calls to deploy the army to Calais to restore order to the area. The town’s mayor, Natacha Bouchart said at a press conference that she accepted the need for humanitarian assistance, but not “this anarchic situation.”

The French Interior Bernard Cazeneuve has so far demurred, however, saying only that the French government had “total determination” to maintain law and order.

FLASHBACK: Ronald Reagan Skipped Last Debate Before IA Caucus – Went on to Win in Landslide

2016 ElectionJan 27, 2016

#BOYCOTTFOXDEBATE #NOFOXDEBATE

Jim Hoft Jan 27th, 2016 7:57 am

On Tuesday night Donald Trump and the Trump campaign announced that GOP frontrunner Trump will skip the FOX News GOP Primary debate this week in Iowa.

Trump is not the first Republican candidate to skip a debate.
Ronald Reagan skipped the Republican debate ahead of the 1980 Iowa caucus.
Bloomberg reported:

Trump isn’t the first top-tier presidential candidate to skip a debate. Ronald Reagan did not attend a Republican debate ahead of the 1980 Iowa caucuses, which he lost to George H.W. Bush. Reagan went on to the win the nomination and the presidency.

Reagan went on to win in a landslide.

Fox News Worse than Liberal Media to Donald Trump

AP Photo/Andrew Harnik

by JOEL B. POLLAK27 Jan 2016983

Donald Trump is boycotting Thursday’s final pre-Iowa GOP debate. And every Republican candidate should. Fox News is treating Trump worse than any liberal media outlet would–worse, even than John Harwood and CNBC.

Last week, moderator Megan Kellyconvened a special panel of anti-Trump writers from National Review to mark the launch of their attack on Trump. This week, Fox News prepared for the debate byinviting a Muslim activist who has criticized Trump to be one of three YouTube personalities to question the candidates. And on Tuesday, as Trump considered whether to participate in the debate, Fox issued a petulant, snarky press statement mocking him:

We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.

No candidate should agree to participate under those conditions. Indeed, the other GOP candidates–including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who led the charge against Harwood–should be standing with Trump against Fox, on principle, instead ofattacking him. And conservatives who are mocking Trump should look in the mirror and ask themselves whether they are applying a different standard to center-right Fox News than they do to the mainstream media.

Fox News’ behavior after Trump’s withdrawal vindicates his decision. The network issued a statement that attacked Trump politically–“We’re not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute”–and accused him of “terrorizations.” Kelly followed up with radical leftist filmmaker Michael Moore on her program for what the Washington Post called a “televised love-in,” where Moore defended her against Trump.

How hard would it have been for Fox News simply to issue a statement expressing disappointment and reiterating that the debate would proceed as planned? Instead, Fox cast aside neutrality and integrity to join the political fray.

Indeed, Politico is openly wonderingwhether Trump walked into Fox News’ “trap.” No news network should try to “trap” a presidential candidate, but that is what Fox News appears to have done to Trump, damning him either way.

Every candidate should expect difficult questions, and no presidential candidate has the right to dictate to networks which journalists should be allowed to ask them. If it were just a matter of Trump ducking Kelly’s tough questions, he would deserve to be criticized. After all, as Trump himself once told Kelly, debating takes courage. The nation already has one president who thinks he can bully the media, and Fox News in particular. It does not need another.

But Fox News’ behavior towards Trump is the kind of bias viewers have turned to Fox to avoid. We would not tolerate it from NBC or CNN–and we should not tolerate it when Fox News sinks to–and below–their level.

Donald Trump Campaign Manager: Other Candidates Thinking About Skipping Fox Debate

AP Photo/Andrew Harnik

by CHARLIE SPIERING27 Jan 201621

Speaking on Good Morning America and Morning Joe this morning, Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski hinted that other candidates were thinking of dropping out of the upcoming Fox News debate after Trump decided to bail.

He asserted that anchor Megyn Kelly was “obsessed” with his boss, which was one reason why Trump decided not to participate.

“Megyn Kelly is totally obsessed with Mr. Trump,” Lewandowski said on Good Morning America. “She’s done multiple shows on why he shouldn’t be even involved in the race on television. She’s completely obsessed with him. It’s impossible to have a fair and honest debate.”

Lewandowski argued that Fox News was trying to use the event to promote its own employees, not the issues that mattered to voters.

“What Fox wants to do is they want to have 24 million people tune in to watch Donald Trump so that their anchors can have the story about them,” he said, pointing out that Trump could see it was a “bad deal” to appear at the debate.

Lewandowski previewed a Trump event in Des Moines, saying he would be raising money for wounded veterans, and said in an interview on Morning Joe that other campaigns had phoned them for details of the event.

“I had a number of calls yesterday with some of the other campaigns who said, hey, can we come and join you in raising money for the wounded warriors, for veterans because, you know, if Fox isn’t going to be fair to you, what makes you think they’re going to be fair to us,” he said.

He called Fox executives “very dishonest” for accusing him of threatening Kelly in phone calls, and accused them of favoring other candidates because they had family members working for them.

“It’s a shame, when you have a conversation with some of the Fox executives, you’d hope they’d keep that conversation private,” he said. “Instead you have executives over there who have relatives working for other campaigns. These are the people who are putting debate questions together.”

“Mr. Trump knows when to walk away from a bad deal,” he said on Morning Joe. “It’s Roger Ailes, It’s Fox News, they think they can toy with Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump doesn’t play games, you guys know that … this isn’t about Megyn Kelly at all, this is about giving the American people the opportunity to ask questions, to hear from the candidates directly in a fair manner.”

He compared the upcoming Fox News debate with the widely criticized CNBC debate – accusing Fox executives of trying to make the moderators the story instead of focusing on the issues.

“What we saw, even with the CNBC debate is when the moderators want to be the story and not let the candidate answer or have the opportunity to answer questions that the American people care about, there’s ramifications to that,” Lewandowski said.
