'My main job is to keep my job, to get reelected. It takes precedence over everything,' an anonymous member of Congress writes in a new book'Voters are incredibly ignorant and know little about our form of government and how it works,' he writes'It's far easier than you think to manipulate a nation of naive, self-absorbed sheep who crave instant gratification'One liberal news blogger claims the author is a Democrat'The Confessions of Congressman X' will be released May 24 by a small Minnesota-based 'vanity press' publisher

GUESSING GAME: 'The Confessions of Congressman X' is due on bookshelves May 24 and Washington is abuzz with speculation about who wrote it

A new book threatens to blow the lid off of Congress as a legislator has penned a tell-all about the worst parts of serving in the House of Representatives – saying that his main job is to raise money for re-election and that leaves little time for reading the bills he votes on.

Mill City Press, a small Minnesota-based 'vanity press' publisher describes 'The Confessions of Congressman X' as  'a devastating inside look at the dark side of Congress as revealed by one of its own.'

'No wonder Congressman X wants to remain anonymous for fear of retribution. His admissions are deeply disturbing.'

The 84-page exposé is due in bookstores in two weeks, and Washington is abuzz with speculation about who may have written it.

Political Wire, a liberal news blog, disclosed on Thursday that the author is a 'Democratic congressman.'

Most of the excerpts that appear on the book jacket will come as little surprise to Americans who are cynical about the political process.

'Most of my colleagues are dishonest career politicians who revel in the power and special-interest money that's lavished upon them,' the author writes.

'My main job is to keep my job, to get reelected. It takes precedence over everything.'

'Fundraising is so time consuming I seldom read any bills I vote on. Like many of my colleagues, I don't know how the legislation will be implemented, or what it'll cost.'

The book also takes shots at voters as disconnected idiots who let Congress abuse its power through sheer incompetence.

CALM BEFORE THE STORM: The new congressional tell-all is likely to cause controversy on Capitol Hill

'Voters are incredibly ignorant and know little about our form of government and how it works,' the anonymous writer claims.

'It's far easier than you think to manipulate a nation of naive, self-absorbed sheep who crave instant gratification.'

And the take-away message is one of resigned depression about how Congress sacrifices America's future on the altar of its collective ego.

'We spend money we don't have and blithely mortgage the future with a wink and a nod. Screw the next generation,' the author writes.

'It's about getting credit now, lookin' good for the upcoming election.'

Trump: Republicans ‘threw in the towel’ on spending bill

GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump excoriated House Republicans for passing a $1.1 trillion funding bill on Friday, claiming they “threw in the towel” to avoid a government shutdown.

“If anyone needs more evidence of why the American people are suffering at the hands of their own government, look no further than the budget deal announced by Speaker Ryan,” Trump said in a statement to ABC News.

“In order to avoid a government shutdown, a cowardly threat from an incompetent president, the elected Republicans in Congress threw in the towel and showed absolutely no budget discipline.”

The House easily passed the spending bill on Friday in a 316-113 vote, which featured the support of 150 Republicans in a major victory for new Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), whose leadership team whipped furiously in support of the bill.

The Senate is expected to approve the spending bill, along with a House-passed tax package, later in the day. The White House has said President Obama will sign both measures.

Trump on Friday blasted the spending bill, saying it would result in “higher deficits, greater debt, less economic liberty and more corporate welfare.”

“Congress cannot seem to help itself in bending to every whim of special interests,” Trump said. “How can they face their constituents when they continue to burden our children and grandchildren with debts they will never be able to repay? Our government is failing us, so we must do something about it. Who knows how bad things will be when the next administration comes in and has to pick up the pieces?”

The spending bill includes the first major change to ObamaCare since the healthcare law was first passed by Congress — suspending the “Cadillac tax" on top-end insurance plans.

But some conservatives were disappointed with the overall bill, saying it was largely negotiated by former Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on his way out of office. The bill also didn’t put any new restrictions on Syrian refugees entering the country or block government funding for Planned Parenthood.

“The only special interest not being served by our government is the American people,” Trump said. “It is time we imposed budget discipline by holding the line on spending, getting rid of waste, fraud and abuse, and by taking on our debt. To do these things, we need a president who can lead the fight to hold Congress and the rest of the government accountable.”

GOP Candidate: 'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson is the Rosa Parks of our generation'

  • Ian Bayne, 39, is running for the 11th District of Illinois in the US House of Representatives in 2014
  • He is not the first conservative politician to rush to 'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson's defense

A Republican candidate for Congress from Illinois says ‘Duck Dynasty’ patriarch Phil Robertson is the ‘Rosa Parks of our generation.’

Ian Bayne, 39, and running for the House of Representatives seat for the 11th District of Illinois, made the comparison to Ms Parks in an official statement released Friday on his website.

Mr Bayne, from the Chicago suburb of Aurora, is running against a handful of other candidates in the 2014, according to the Daily Herald, which first flagged the remarks.

‘In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians,’ Mr Bayne said

‘What Parks did was courageous,’ he added. ‘What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too.’
The GOP candidate’s comparison of the reality star to the famous civil rights activist came under immediate criticism.
'
after the he came under fire for his racially charged remarks to GQ.
‘I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person,’ he told the magazine. ‘Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers.’
‘They’re singing and happy,’ he continued. ‘I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word.’
Mr Robertson was immediately suspended from ‘Duck Dynasty’ as several conservative politicians came to his defense.

‘Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana,’ Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said in a statement. ‘The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with - I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment.’
Even more damning footage emerged Thursday of an anti-gay sermon given by the 67-year-old born-again Christian.
‘They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents and they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.'
Though he never directly calls out homosexuals, the implications are obvious.
Fans of the show have completely bought out Walmart’s stock of ‘Duck Dynasty’ merchandise, showing that not everyone is upset with his controversial comments.
The Robertson family is currently in discussions with A&E over the future of the show.
