On Saturday, thousands of carolers aiming to satisfy her dying wish to hear the community sing Christmas carols streamed to her house to sing to her.

The group had ended with “Happy Birthday,” since Laney had just turned 8-years-old the night before.

The actor was at a London hospital when he died on Saturday. Born in Ireland, O'Toole was as well-known for his hard drinking and hell-raising lifestyle as for the stupendous talent which set the screen alight. In a statement, his daughter Kate said the family was completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of 'real love and affection' after the announcement of his death. 'In due course, there will be a memorial filled with song and good cheer, as he would have wished', she said.
