ESPN Demotes Ditka after Hall of Famer Calls Obama ‘Worst President We’ve Ever Had GO TRUMP’

Less than a week after calling President Barack Obama “the worst president we’ve ever had,” Mike Ditka lost his job on ESPN’s marquee Sunday football program.
The Big Lead reports that the cable network hired Matt Hasselbeck to replace Ditka onSunday NFL Countdown. Hasselbeck performed well in relief for an injured Andrew Luck this past season. He threw nine touchdowns to five picks and went 5-3 as a starter. But at 40, and with brother Tim enjoying a successful run as an analyst at ESPN, the 18-year NFL veteran opted to call it a career and start a new career in broadcasting.
“Obama is the worst president we’ve ever had,” Ditka told a New York radio station last week, adding that the commander in chief is “not a leader.” The Pro Football Hall of Famer expressed a preference for Donald Trump for president.
Immediately, the comments set off widespread speculation about whether the words would result in the demise of the Super Bowl-winning coach and player at the network. Ditka joined ESPN in 2004 after stints with CBS and NBC.
ESPN has refrained from commenting on what role, if any, Ditka’s criticism of the president led to him losing his job onSunday NFL Countdown. The Big Lead reports that Ditka will stay on at the network in a diminished capacity.

Robert Griffin III Clears Locker for Redskins, Leaves Cryptic Messages

The Associated Press

by ROBERT WILDE12 Jan 201618

Robert Griffin III left mysterious notes when he cleared out his locker—most likely for the last time—at FedExField on Sunday.

After the Green Bay Packers trounced the Washington Redskins 35-18 in a NFL wildcard game, RG III attached one message quoting scripture to his locker: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

And he left a longer missive that Yahoo Sports attributed to Mother Theresa:

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

Griffin, a first-round pick in 2012 out of Baylor, enjoyed phenomenal success in his first year with the Skins, taking the team to the playoffs and setting the record for the all-time highest quarterback rating in NFL history for a rookie.

“It’s tough to unite this city around anything,” Barack Obama said back then. “Believe me, I know. But RGIII makes it look easy.”

This past season was a different story for the 25-year-old. Due to a series of knee injuries over the previous years and his inability to excel as a drop back passer, Griffin fell to the #3 quarterback on the depth chart behind a burgeoning Kirk Cousins and a veteran Colt McCoy.

Unwilling to risk RG III getting a career ending injury in the last year of his contract before his option year-which would obligate the Redskins to pay Griffin$16.2 million for next season—the Redskins decided to let him ride the pine, giving RG III zero minutes for the entire season.

Nevertheless, Griffin is still an impressive athlete with a great arm and could end up on another NFL roster. Perhaps the Cowboys, who could use a backup for Tony Romo, might sign him. The former Baylor QB might be attractive to someone like owner Jerry Jones who is known for his obsession with big-name stars. Griffin will need to reestablish himself as a NFL quarterback but will suffer a major reduction in pay from the $16 million he commanded this year.
